LOS ANGELES — At E3, Chinese game companies blew everyone’s expectations away with their advanced development capabilities. The amount of attention these companies and their games received was particularly impressive given the overwhelming publicity that was showered on virtual reality games at this year’s expo. NetEase, a leading game development and publishing company from China, debuted an incredible new mobile game called Tianxia, which was developed using the company’s proprietary game engine Messiah. The breathtaking graphics of Tianxia rivaled the quality of PC games, and gained a lot of attention from pro gamers and industry insiders for its intricate design, full-screen interactive maps, and dramatic PK battles with over one hundred players.
As a front-runner of the next-generation mobile game engine, Messiah has been awarded with more than 20 patents of original design, and is fully compatible with advanced game technologies such as physical based rendering, normal mapping, GPU Sprites, and real-time lighting. Western game companies have been the leaders in game engine development. Messiah demonstrates to the global game industry the exciting possibilities that NetEase and the Chinese game companies hold in innovation. This means that the industry landscape for games and game engines is going to become more competitive going forward.
The advanced computing capabilities and software and hardware integration of Messiah has broken the technological barrier for further growth of mobile games, elevating graphics to the next level and unleashing new and exciting possibilities for the mobile platform. In the past, mobile games were mostly developed by the Unity engine, which was adaptable and easy to use but also had the problem of being mechanical, visually repetitive and limiting in combat settings.
During demo at E3, pro gamers praised the dynamic action forms and combat environment of Tianxia. Media called Tianxia a “groundbreaking mobile gaming experience”. Gamers are highly anticipating the full release of the game. As the latest and hottest mobile game from NetEase, Tianxia is poised to help NetEase expand into the global game market.
