Tetris Celebrates 30th Birthday Today

Russian programmer Alexey Pajitnov released Tetris 30 years ago today on the Elektronika 60. 

Tetris gives you a screen which slowly fills up with “Tetrads” made up of four blocks in various shapes. You have to move and rotate the blocks so they form solid rows across the screen, whereupon the row will vanish and you will score points. Clearing more than one row at a time will net you a bonus multiplier. If the screen fills up with blocks then the game ends. read more

GB Donkey Kong Land Heading to Japanese 3DS Virtual Console

Nintendo announced that the 1995 Game Boy title, Donkey Kong Land, is heading to the Japanese 3DS virtual console.

Considering Rare’s involvement with the original game’s development, as well as the removal of all three Super Nintendo Donkey Kong Country games from the Wii Virtual Console library in 2012, this moves comes as a bit of a surprise. read more
