Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath Review for Xbox One Beta

Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath Review for Xbox One Beta

With dazzling graphics and intense battle scenes, Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath for Xbox by Grinding Gear Games is an epic survival game set in the fantasy world of Wraeclast. In the game, your character is exiled there and must fight enemies while completing quests given to you by different characters. The plot is very complex and kind of vague, making the story somewhat hard to follow. However, the maps are so fun and the combat is so interactive that you will find yourself playing this game for hours on end.

In my opinion, the fighting sequences are the best part of Path of Exile. There is a good variety of monsters and bosses, as well as a wide selection of maps and climates to explore—jungles, deserts, and beaches, just to name a few. In fact, the sheer size of Wraeclast as a virtual world is incredibly impressive, and it definitely contributes to the game’s appeal. As far as controls go, self-orientation and mobility are extremely easy to master. The overhead view, moreover, is more unique and less common than the first-person view; it allows you to see battles on a larger scale and execute your plan of attack more effectively. The one issue I had with these scenes was how bloody and gory it got. Granted, Path of Exile: Fall of Oriath is rated Mature for violence and gore, and this was the first time I was playing a game with that rating. Still, it is something that players, especially younger ones, should be aware of and know about before they start playing this game.

Another interactive aspect of this game is your individual character—you can choose and customize their name and personal appearance from the very beginning. I especially appreciated how I could make my personal avatar Asian, which is rarely seen in most video games. There are also several different character types and classes, so it is easy and enjoyable to find the specific one that works best for you. Additionally, your character has its own inventory to store weapons and tools you pick up along the way. You directly depend on the items in your inventory for survival, and there is no store for buying extra supplies; however, you can trade and sell items with other online players. This made me feel more connected to the survival aspect of the game, as well as the medieval theme.

Path of Exile: The Fall of Oriath Review for Xbox One Beta

So what is so special of the Fall of Oriath edition of Path of Exile? This version actually includes six new “Acts” of the storyline, and players should definitely be excited about all this new content. It is said that the decisions gamers make in the first half of the game will determine the outcome of the second half, so it will be interesting to see how this game accomplishes that. But there is no doubt that Path of Exile: Fall of Oriath is a new game brimming with freshness and potential.

Rating: 7/10

From the moment I first played Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy on the original Xbox, I have always had an avid curiosity and enthusiasm for video games. I admire their ability to immerse us in completely different worlds, and I am always eager to see how they integrate the newest breakthroughs in digital technology to make virtual reality feel real. I am currently a senior at UC Berkeley, but when I'm not studying I always make time to play Xbox One with my younger brother.
