Overture Review for PC

This is the review for the PC version of Overture by developer Black Shell Media, LLC (SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition).

Overture is an action-adventure roguelike. Drawing heavy inspiration from hits such as The Binding of IsaacOverture allows you to explore vast randomly generated dungeons and slay hordes of enemies!

Graphics
Overture graphics are similar to The Legend of Zelda. They are pure retro with great colors and clarity to keep you interested. We gave the graphics a 4.5 / 5.

Sound
Overture soundtrack is right on! It’s no wonder as it is composed by Rafael Langoni Smith (SanctuaryRPG and others). We gave the sound a 5 / 5.

Gameplay
Overture is pure insanity from the first second you are thrust into the rogue-like game. We thought that we inadvertently selected “Nightmare” mode, but alas, this game will keep you challenged and wondering if you have the skill to pass level 1!  This game has a very cool feature in the ability of gathering NPC’s who help you along your journey, although they get smashed to pieces with the continuous onslaught of murdering hordes.  We gave the gameplay a 4 / 5.

Controls
Overture features simple and intuitive controls. Players have to basically navigate with the W A S D keys to move as well as click the mouse to attack, use magic and equip items. We gave the controls a 4.5 / 5.

Overall
Overall, Overture is not for the faint of heart! The developer has priced it low on steam so if you’re into retro gaming in constant insanity mode, this game is for you. If you are looking for story lines, costume designs and easy game play, then this game is not for you. We do recommend that you play SanctuaryRPG: Black Edition, the developer’s other game as it is the coolest ASCII style game we’ve ever played.

4 / 5

And here is the official game trailer:

You can buy Overture on Steam right now for $4.99.
