Mario Kart 8 is the Fastest Selling Wii U Game

Mario Kart 8 has now sold over 1.2 million units over its launch weekend, making it Nintendo’s fastest selling Wii U game.

In a press release, Nintendo announced that the number of sales is based on internal estimates for Japan, Europe and The Americas. it hasn’t been specified yet if the numbers represent the games shipped to retailers or sold thorough to consumers.

Nintendo of Europe President, Satoru Shibata, said,

“Such positive early feedback for Mario Kart 8 reinforces the great gameplay experiences that Wii U currently offers. With Nintendo set to showcase its future releases at E3 next week, this is a great milestone going into the summer season.”

Up until now (before Mario Kart 8 sales), Nintendo says the Mario Kart franchise has sold over 100 million units.
