Fae Farm Review for Steam

Fae Farm, by developer and publisher Phoenix Labs, is a cute and cozy farming simulator where you find yourself on this strange island of magic and mystery. You play as the new resident of Azoria, an enchanted island surrounded by whirlpools and magic. After crashing your ship and making it to shore on the floating debris you are set up in your very own house and farmland to do with as you please. Explore this strange island, meet new and interesting people, go on quests, grow your homestead and much more. You can even play the game with up to three of your friends so you can share the magic together. What adventures await you on the magical island of Azoria?

Fae Farm Review for Steam

When you start the game you get to name your world and then customize your character. There is a good amount of customization options including, body type, skin tone, eye shape and color, hair style and color as well as preferred pronouns and voice options. Once you finish the customization and start the game you are told the story of how you came to this island. While walking on the beach one day you find a message in the bottle that invites you to a faraway land. You set sail and find yourself caught in a whirlpool that destroys your boat but you manage to make it to shore on the wreckage. On the island you meet the mayor who welcomes you to the island and instructs you to find your house and the welcome gift she left for you. The mayor then basically runs you through how to farm and craft. After that you spend the rest of the day running around talking to people and learning how to play the game. You learn how to fish, catch bugs and critters, as well as how to sell items. The next day you wake up and the wizard asks to see you and gives you a staff that can destroy the thorny vines that block some of the paths. You can find recipes for furniture that you can craft and place in your house as well as on your property. You collect materials using the tools the mayor gives you by right clicking on the item you wish to collect. Overall there seems to be a lot to this game, other than the basics of farming and crafting there is magic, potions, and so much more. I barely scratched the surface of what is in store in this game.

So far I have not found many issues with the game, only a few things that I can mention. The one thing that seemed to catch my attention the most is the camera, it moves with the character but stays in the same fixed place never changing the depth or direction making it hard to traverse in some areas due to not being able to see around stuff. The other thing I noticed is that the movement takes some getting used to and is a little finicky when jumping. The last thing I’ll comment on is the fact that the voices of the characters seem to echo weirdly even in areas where it doesn’t seem like there would be any echo. Most of these issues are just little things that I noticed that don’t really have much to do with the overall gameplay experience.

Fae Farm is a brand new cozy farming sim filled with mystery and magic. There is a lot to explore and uncover in this game, and you can adventure yourself or play with your friends. You will grow your homestead, get to meet charming characters, and discover ways to infuse magic into everything you do. Customize your character, master the arts of crafting, cooking, potion-making and discover so much more. I am giving this game a 9 out of 10 because it is a fun game that adds a bit of depth and mystery to the normal farming sim genre.

Fae Farm launches September 8, 2023, for PC via Steam. You can wishlist the game right now.

I enjoy a wide variety of games from intricate survival/adventure games to simple platformers. I am also a sucker for a good story game.
