E3 2015 Atari's Alone in the Dark: Illumination Now on Steam

NEW YORK – June 11, 2015– Atari, one of the world’s most recognized publishers and producers of interactive entertainment, today announced the launch of Alone in the Dark: Illumination for PC, available exclusively on Steam. To celebrate the launch, Alone in the Dark: Illumination will be on sale for 14% off, and will be priced at $29.99 through June 22, 2015.

When the forces of eldritch darkness take control of the township of Lorwich, Virginia, Ted Carnby and his supernatural investigators must harness the power of llumination to defeat hordes of shadow spawned demons. With a single-player and a multiplayer mode, this third-person action-horror game gives players the option to play with friends or Alone in the Dark.

In Alone in the Dark: Illumination, players must work their way through a desolate mining town while battling beasts from beyond madness, including Hell Hounds, Ghouls and Demons. These unnatural foes are only vulnerable when exposed to light sources, so players must strategically manage
environmental light sources to defeat enemies. Devious environmental puzzles challenge players to utilize all available light sources and scarce resources as they progress deeper into the darkness.

Four character classes are available, each offering unique weapons and abilities. The heroes include the heavy weapon-wielding Hunter, the lightning-manipulating Witch, the divinely-empowered Priest, and the mechanically-inclined Engineer. Completing campaigns within the single-player mode unlocks additional heroes, which then become playable within both single-player and multiplayer modes.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination is the latest installment of the popular Alone in the Dark franchise, inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft. Paying homage to the original 1992 title widely considered the “Father of the Survival-Horror Genre,” two of the heroes in Alone in the Dark: Illumination are direct descendants of the two original playable characters.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination combines mechanics from the survival, action, and horror genres to put a modern twist on the classic series,” said Todd Shallbetter, Chief Operating Officer, Atari. “By adding the elements of illumination, weaponry, and a multiplayer mode, we’re taking a completely new approach to the franchise while providing a more complex and engaging gameplay experience.”

Steam Achievements and Trading Cards will also be available, as well as additional downloadable content following the launch. The game will be available in five languages including English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.
