California Video Game Industry Incentive Hearing Details

ASSEMBLY COMMITTEE ON ARTS, ENTERTAINMENT, SPORTS, TOURISM & INTERNET MEDIA TO EXPLORE CALIFORNIA’S VIDEO GAME INDUSTRY

What: The Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism and Internet Media will hold an informational hearing on Friday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. at the University of Southern California. The hearing, titled California’s Video Game Industry: Staying on Top of a Changing Game, will examine what the industry looks like and how California can maintain its leadership role in the field and strengthen its position for the future.

The hearing will explore the contributions of computer and video game industry, the role of colleges and universities in training the next generation of game development talent, opportunities and challenges in strengthening California’s position in industry, and the future of computer games in research, education, and workforce development.

Who: Assemblymember Ian Calderon, Chair of the Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports, Tourism, and Internet Media, and committee members; speakers scheduled to testify before the committee who will offer their unique perspectives on the issue include Erik Huey, Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the Entertainment Software Association, Peter Marx, Chief Innovation Technology Officer for the Los Angeles Mayor’s Office, Tracy Fullerton, Director of the USC Game Innovation Lab, Craig Hagen, Corporate Director of Global Government Affairs for Electronic Arts, Kevin Klowden, Managing Economist and Managing Director of the Milken Institute’s California Center, Will Koch, Deputy Director of the California Competes Tax Credit Program at the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development, and Walt Scacchi, PhD., Research Director for the UC Irvine Institute for Virtual Environments & Computer Games.
