BEAR WITH ME Review for PC

This is Gaming Cypher’s PC review done by Trevor Young of Bear with Me by developer Exordium Games.

Often I find that click to move games can lack some challenges or even become over simplified. In the case of Bear with Me, however, that is not the case. The basic theme behind this game is a detective/mystery type. Upon opening the game you will find yourself clicking around a young girl who will need the help of her companion teddy bear in order to search for clues. The bear, Ted, is rather helpful as a companion and can be used for hints to your next objective along the way.

Throughout your journey to uncover the mystery of the “Red Man” you will notice that by clicking on various objects you will be able to use them. Some of the items will actually allow you to use them, while others will be stored in your item box for later use. These stored items present one of the unique challenges in the game that sometimes are not to be found in click to move games. In order to progress further into the game, you will need to utilize your item stash, but beware. These items may be hidden and hard to find or they may even need to be combined to achieve an objective. While this doesn’t seem very complex, a little bit of out of the box thinking will be necessary in order to use the items and interact with the landscape around you.

Another of the challenges presented in Bear with Me is the cryptic nature of Ted’s hints. He will never tell you directly how to get somewhere or exactly what to do. Rather, he will deliver a rough idea of what needs to be done and then you will have to become somewhat of a detective to determine how the task should be accomplished. I quite enjoyed this because it added another layer of complexity to a game that I expected to be very simple.

One final aspect of the game that I would like to note, and one that I thought really kept me into the game, is the game’s dialogue. The dialogue in this game has very sarcastic tones to it which I found amusing. Characters have been known to ask “Are you even trying?” if you fail to correctly use an item. Or in Ted’s case he will sometimes offer a solemn “No.” If this doesn’t seem very entertaining, that’s probably because it really wouldn’t be much fun if I disclosed the best one liners to an audience who has yet to play the game. With that being said, keep your eyes open for objects to interact with throughout the game and you may be surprised with your characters response.

BEAR WITH ME Review for PC

Overall, I thought Bear with Me was a great game. As you progress the level of outside the box thinking increases and challenges you more and more. In my opinion this works flawlessly with the click to move style of play in that the simplicity of control offers for more complexity in the games story as a whole. So if you’re in the market for a detective style game that will keep you puzzled, look no further.

I rate Bear with Me 8.5/10.
