JACKSONVILLE, Fla./PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The donors who support Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) and its mission to honor and empower Wounded Warriors come from all walks of life. Recently, 44 video game enthusiasts gathered for a marathon streaming session to raise awareness and funds for WWP, playing the widely popular game PlayerUnknown’s BattlegroundsConnor Hervey, a member of the BOTEmpire gaming team, organized the event.

“We decided to get involved in charity work recently because we thought since we have built this platform, why not use it for the betterment of others instead of just ourselves?” Connor said. “There’s no better feeling than helping those who need it, especially with a great cause like Wounded Warrior Project.”

Connor has a few relatives who served in the military, such as his grandpa, who was an Army veteran and helicopter mechanic. However, it was his close friendship with some WWP staff that first inspired him to learn more about the organization.

“This was our first attempt at an event like this, and having an opportunity to speak to the staff about how to get involved was easy,” Connor said. “A lot of the games we play on the BOTEmpire team are very popular within the veteran community, so it came together really well.”

The funds raised by Connor’s stream will go toward WWP programs that assist injured veterans with mental health, physical health and wellness, career and benefits counseling, long-term care for the most seriously wounded, and connecting warriors with one another and their communities.

“Gaming is more than just a hobby for me; it’s a passion,” Connor said. “For me, giving back through gaming is something I take seriously. I hope it’s a passion that catches on, especially with how big this industry is, and especially with how quickly the e-sports scene is growing. If more people wanted to support Wounded Warrior Project through their passion for gaming, I know a lot of good could be done for wounded warriors. The gaming industry could be an absolute powerhouse for charities.”
