Watch Dogs Uplay Requirement on PC Confirmed by Ubisoft

Today, Ubisoft has confirmed that having Uplay is indeed a requirement when playing Watch Dogs, even for those purchasing the game on Steam.

A Ubisoft representative stated that,

“Like some of our other AAA releases, including Far Cry 3, Splinter Cell Blacklist, and Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag. Watch Dogs will be available on Steam and will leverage Uplay to support the games services.”

Uplay has been pretty unpopular, like most other DRM services besides Steamworks.  With Games for Windows Live retiring in a few months, Uplay is most likely in the running for primary position of PC DRM, but will face strong competition from EA’s Origin.

Watch Dogs will be released May 27 for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3, and PC. Watch Dogs on Wii U will be available at a later date. You can pre-order Watch Dogs on UPlay.
