REVIEW for Starside Arena on iPAD

This is Gaming Cypher’s iPAD review for Starside Arena by Epic Owl Ltd., a Finnish game studio formed by a team of former Rovio colleagues.

Starside Arena is set in the far off future and allows the player hours of fun in space ship designing and battle. There are 50+ technologies to research and a selection of 37 unique ship models. We enjoyed the creativity the game affords the player in making the best ship that can win battle after battle. We were able to design both small ships as well as large ships, which can hold hundreds of modules.

REVIEW for Starside Arena on iPAD

When designing your ships for the ultimate performance, you have to take the following into consideration (or else you get blasted into oblivion!):

  • Defenses
  • Engine Power
  • Weapon Systems
  • Countermeasures
  • Power Generation
  • Mass
  • 2 separate combat modes, which will allow you to win battles depending upon your best design or fleet structure

You are also able to battle your personally designed ships with other online players. You have two options – battle spaceship against spaceship or play a larger tactical game by using an entire fleet of ships. The longer you play Starside Arena, the better your ship design will become and the more battles you will win.

We found the iPAD controls to be very easy and without any glitches. The colors were very pleasing and the sound fit the game perfectly. The game was very intuitive and, therefore, we had no problem figuring out what to do. The most challenging (and fun) part was making the ship design better than the last in order to win.

Overall, we recommend Starside Arena as a BUY, and rate it as 4.5/5

Starside Arena is a free-to-download title with in-app purchases that is available on the iPhone and iPad through the App Store, with the Android version following later in November.
