PROMINENCE POKER Review for PC

This is Gaming Cypher’s PC review for Prominence Poker by 505 Games and veteran indie studio Pipeworks.

Prominence Poker is the upcoming free-to-play classic Texas HoldEm game on the Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Prominence Poker is one of the three free-to-play poker games on Steam and has the advantage of being cross platform, cross console, and having a wider range of customizability inside the game.

You start off the game by creating your character, with surprisingly good designs and options available to the player. Following the brief character creation, the player is given a brief tutorial and introduction to the game of Texas HoldEm. The player, the tourist, has managed to win big against the Mayor, the main antagonist, and must build enough reputation to reach the top and challenge him again.

There are two primary game modes available, single player and multiplayer. In single player, the player can play in a table against 5 AI opponents with increasing binds and pools or play against bosses when certain reputations are reached. In multiplayer, the player can join in a table with up to five other players and play in different game modes. For the early-access, only casual play is currently available with different antes and settings. The game plays just like any Texas Holdem, with starting blinds, checks, raises, and folds. In addition to the normal game play, the player can unlock and buy special animations and accessories to display their character and table. The chips won throughout the game can be used to buy fashion accessories and trinkets to display during a typical round.

On the most basic level, Prominence Poker is just a multiplayer Texas Holdem poker game with better graphics, design, and cross platform compared to the rest of the free-to-play games currently out on Steam. While the graphics are certainly robust, the options and controls are clearly designed to accommodate for consoles, resulting in a lack of advanced PC customizability and options, often resulting in low fps and other performance issues. However it is important to recognize that at this stage, Prominence Poker is still at the early-access stage. With the promises of additional content (liked ranked play and additional single player) and fixes, Prominence Poker can be given the benefit of the doubt, especially for a free-to-play game.

All in all, I would give Prominence Poker a 9 out of 10, for beating out the rest of the competition in terms of being free, high-quality, but slightly lacking in video-options and frame performance.

Prominence Poker is currently on Steam Early Access.

I remember when I was a little kid, I watched my dad talk to a cowboy robot in a post-apocalyptic open world game. He kicked me out of his office, stating that the game is inappropriate for children, but I think that’s where my love of western RPGs started. Since then, I’ve grown up playing competitive games, interacting with the community, and exploring immersive worlds. I’m definitely an old soul as my favorite games include all of the old Fallout games, RPGs with classical elements such as Divinity: Original Sin 2, and the all-time great Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines
