Phantom: The Rebound follows several young children who have been previously manipulated by a secret organization with ancient alien technology. These experiments resulted in the children having supernatural powers to step inside another living creatures soul/ consciousness through manipulation of space-time. They call them ‘phantoms.’
The children were created by the organization out of fear of an alien invasion from the aliens whose technology they accidentally discovered. The human organization feared the aliens’ technological superiority so much so that they created radical experiments on test-tube humans and young children in order to advance the technology at a faster rate. The main plot line arises after a schism between the ‘phantoms’ children and the organization, after an unforeseen side-effect of the alien technology renders some of the children psychologically unstable. The story begins after this schism with, Takuya, the protagonist who is one of the first rogue insane ‘phantoms’ the organization has just re-captured and “fixed” (made controllable) with memory altering techniques.
As the rogue phantoms, and the government mind-controlled ‘phantoms ‘ both try to gain control of Takuya, his memory-loss begins to fade away, and he soon remembers his past as one of the most powerful of all ‘phantoms’. This alien technology the organization used to make these ‘phantom’ children is later revealed to have come from a (malevolent) alien species that were in fact created by an even OLDER (more benevolent) alien species as experiments. Takuya is (later revealed to have been) imbued with the DNA of one of the previous leaders of this benevolent alien species via inter-dimensional manipulation by said species. This will explain why he is more powerful than the other ‘phantoms’ who were only manipulated using the machines of the malevolent alien species. This will then lead to different abilities/weaknesses of the (benevolent alien) phantoms like Takuya, and the (malevolent alien) phantoms.
