PC REVIEW: The Walking Dead: Michonne – A Telltale Miniseries Ep. 1 In Too Deep

Right off the bat, Episode 1 ‘In Too Deep’ starts with lots of zombie fighting action. In true TellTale fashion, the screen guides you as to which buttons to press in order to progress through the fighting scenes. Fighting keys used the most are Q and E followed by the W A S D used as arrow keys pointing to all four directions. In the first few minutes of the game, you have to be very quick and hit the buttons just right or else you’ll get chomped by the zombies and have to start all over again.

The story line is highly engaging and interesting and you will have to make lots of conversation choices, all of which will be remembered by the different characters. You play as Michonne, portrayed in-game by award-winning actress Samira Wiley (Orange is the New Black). who is a very conflicted young woman who keeps seeing visions of her two kids, which are presumed killed. Michonne, however proves to be even stronger that she believes and gets to make lots of choices throughout the game. We felt totally engaged with the story line peppered with tons of zombie fighting fun.

You then join Pete and his crew aboard the sailing ship The Companion while cruising the coastline for survivors and much needed supplies. The ship ends up stuck close to a ferry from where they hear a desperate call for help. While on board, Michonne discovers a horrible massacre and gets captured by the seemingly bad inhabitants of Monroe, a floating colony. The episode ends with Michonne trying to escape the colony.

As far as gameplay and controls, we encountered nothing but smooth play time, great graphics true to TellTale form and background music and sound effects that fit the scenes perfectly. This is one of my favorite TellTale games and I highly recommend it as a BUY.
