PC REVIEW for The Last Door: Season 2 – Collectors Edition

This is Gaming Cypher’s PC review for the hit indie point-and-click horror adventure The Last Door Season 2 –  Collector’s Edition by Phoenix Online Publishing and The Game Kitchen.

The Last Door – Season 2 continues the episodic series of the popular point and click interactive horror mystery game, with the character John Wakefield following the trails of Jeremiah Devitt, the protagonist from the previous season.

The Last Door resembles other point and click mysteries, moving the character from area to area, solving mysteries in order to further advance into the story. Non-player controlled characters in the story give out hints, helpful objects, transportation, or plays an important piece in the story. Other times they serve as obstacles the player would have to bypass. Items are stashed in the inventory bar at the bottom of the screen, and can be combined or used with other characters.

One of the most enjoyable parts to The Last Door – Season 2 is the slower pace of the game. The storytelling and background information given throughout the game definitely creates an urge to find out the truth, but there is enough time to absorb other elements in the game. Despite the short length of each episode, there is depth in each of the NPCs, with enough background and personality. The fast travel option, achieved by double clicking the exit or border to the next area, is a nicely added touch, being able to skip walking animations.

Having finished most the season two, one annoying aspect in the game is that some objects requires multiple clicks before being able to be put into the player’s inventory. There are times where I missed an important item despite already clicking and examining the object. Other times, the puzzles are simply not intuitive, requiring a huge leap in logic or having to physically explore all of the areas.

All in all, The Last Door – Season 2 is an extremely well-rounded interactive mystery with a praise-worthy mystery, spanning over multiple locations and episodes. As such, I would rate The Last Door – Season 2 a 4 out of 5 for its well-created environment and story.
