Spec Ops: The Line Writer Wants Less Violence, More Creativity

During GDC, Spec Ops: The Line writer, Walt Williams, called for less violence and more creativity.

Williams said: “We’re in an industry full of very intelligent, knowledgeable, and progressive people. It’s getting harder and harder for us to play these games and to look at them critically and say, ‘This is OK, this makes sense,’ especially as we get older.”

Broken Age GDC Teaser Trailer

Broken Age has been reveaed at GDC. This Kickstarter-funded game tells the stories of a young boy and girl leading parallel lives.

The girl is chosen to be sacrificed to a monster while the boy is trapped by a domineering spaceship.

Miiverse App to Browser and Mobile this May

At GDC, Nintendo Producer, Kiyoshi Mizuki, announced that a mobile and browser Miiverse app should be available by May.

The Miiverse app will enable users to post comments, draw, and interact with communities when they are away from the Wii U. Presently, Wii-U is the only hardware to support the social network.

Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag – Follow-Up in Works

Even though Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has not yet been released, two Ubisoft teams are hard at work on the next title.

Ubisoft Toronto chief, Jade Raymond, said “The thing that’s great to me is that there is still some of my favorite people who, you know, we were in the trenches shipping that first one. We lived through all of that stuff together and some of those guys are still on the franchise and have been there. So it’s a just for me to work with some of those people again.”

Activision R&D Real-time Character Demo

At GDC, Activision Blizzard presented a rendition of its real-time character on current video card hardware by using standard bone animation.

‘The original high resolution data was acquired from Light Stage Facial Scanning and Performance Capture by USC Institute for Creative Technologies, then converted to a 70 bones rig, while preserving the high frequency detail in diffuse, normal and displacement composite maps. It is being rendered in a DirectX11 environment, using advanced techniques to faithfully represent the character’s skin and eyes.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition Sold Over 6,000,000 Copies

Minecraft developer 4J Studios announced in a tweet (see below) that its Xbox 360 edition has now sold over 6,000,000 copies since its May 2012 release.

The game’s core version has been purchased over 9,000,000 million times, and total sales reached over 20 million across all systems in January.

ZombiU Patched

ZombiU has received its first patch from Ubisoft Montpellier.


The biggest fix is the Nursery glitch, among other missing interactive objects and game issues. You can catch the full patch notes here.

Walmart will start carrying camo Xbox controllers in May.

The controller is wireless and will cost $55. In addition, when buying a camo controller, you should probably mod your TV and Xbox 360 console with camo shells.

The PS Mini Velocity is getting an HD update and a full PSN release for the Vita.

Velocity Ultra will feature the following:

  • Native HD Graphics
  • Explosive lighting FX
  • Bombs on right stick
  • Touch to teleport
  • Lots of trophies, including platinum
  • PSN leaderboards
