Nikkei reported that Nintendo’s former President, Hiroshi Yamauchi, has died today at the age of 85.
Yamauchi joined Nintendo in 1949 and started with the launch of the Game & Watch series. He then continued with the company’s transition from card-manufacturer into the video game company that we all know today. In addition, he worked with legendary developers Shigeru Miyamotu and Gunpei Yokoi as well as helped split the company into various R&D departments.
In May 31, 2002, Hiroshi Yamauchi stepped down and was succeeded by current president, Satoru Iwata.
