Minecraft Sells Over 12 Million Copies on Xbox 360

4J Studios’s Minecraft Xbox 360 Edition just passed its 12 million copies in sales, making it one of the most successful Xbox 360 games ever.

Minecraft Sells Over 12 Million Copies on Xbox 360

Mojang’s Daniel Kaplan talked with Xbox Wire about this huge achievement,

“It is pretty amazing! I remember when we started talking about sales numbers that we would be super happy to sell 1 million copies. That would have put us on par with BF1943 and Castle Crashers, which both are awesome games, so that was something to aim for. We never even dreamed of selling 12 million!”

When asked if there are any “sweet” new packs in the works for the Xbox 360 Edition, Kaplan replied,

“Of course! We’re looking forward to creating mashups with other games. The Marvel collaboration is a great start and something we want to continue doing.”

Referencing what impressed him the most about the Xbox Community, Kaplan stated that,

“The continued support and the fact that people are still able to surprise us with innovative creations. Considering you can’t “cheat” by building stuff with external tools, the community have created incredible things.”

Then he continued when asked what is the most requested feature addition,

“Probably bigger worlds. We’re pushing the limitations of the 360 in various different ways and we will continue doing that. However, bigger worlds would require the guarantee of a hard drive on each 360; since not all 360’s ship with hard drives that makes things tricky. Luckily, on Xbox One, that’s not an issue.”
