FOR HONOR Review for PC

FOR HONOR Review for PC

For Honor released earlier in February and to date the game has really delivered in most aspects. After getting deeper into the Ubisoft game, it becomes quite the thrilling and immersive online action game. The primary component of this game focuses on the PvP combat and its plethora of game modes such as domination and round based arena style dueling. After playing mostly online content, I found that the campaign offers some interesting storyline as well as helping the player grasp a feel for the different classes and their respective play styles. For Honor out of the gates was felt amazing to play, the combat system feels fluid and the built in combo system of attacking makes for a really satisfying play through.

FOR HONOR Review for PC

For Honor offers three unique factions to choose from in online play—Samurai, Vikings and Knights. These atypical warrior factions all also offer distinct faction specific classes that offer certain advantages over other classes whilst giving up other attributes. Balancing the differences between classes this way makes playing For Honor in competitive online matches dynamic. Different combinations of players and classes can greatly influence the flows of battles and the gameplay.

The combat system in For Honor also makes the game feel engaging, as players must actively change between three defensive stances to both attack and parry incoming attacks. The game also has multiple combo attacks which if landed correctly in succession can allow you to unleash an unlockable attack doing massive damage. However, online gameplay can be frustrating at times due to the matchmaking and unpredictable server issues. The timing sensitive combat system really suffers and is unplayable when the server lags making it impossible to accurately counter incoming attacks. At times the server will suddenly display (A connection error has occurred) and return you to the main menu. This made playing the game at times not even worth trying to launch which is really frustrating given the intensity and competitiveness of online matches. Likewise, balancing can experience some issues due to the way teams are chosen. When selecting a class to play for a competitive match, you are unable to see what your teammates have chosen to play as which can make game balance somewhat unpredictable.

FOR HONOR Review for PC

Overall For Honor is a great game, the execution of both the online and story mode in terms of their technical aesthetics and gameplay are spot on. The new style of gameplay employed in For Honor’s combat system are really enjoyable to play—all I can say is that it feels fluid and immersive! This new style also makes skill and strategy definitely major factors in For Honor. All of these amazing factors as well as looking great are why it’s such a shame that the servers don’t function smoothly enough to play the game. This game has the potential to really become a fun game if the frustrating server issues are resolved. For Honor would deserve 10 out of 10 if the servers ran smoothly—until then I would rate For Honor 6 out of 10 points.
