Helldivers 2 Has a Higher Player Count than DOTA 2

Helldivers 2 came onto the scene with an exploding whisper. It seemed to be almost shadow dropped by Sony with little to no advertising being shown. It also was a live-service game that came out at the same time two other live-service games came out, both of which have seemingly fallen on their faces.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was honestly doomed from the start. People did not want this game, and it might’ve been a good idea if they just canceled the entire thing like that Batwoman movie. It only ever reached a peak number of 13,459 players since launch, and it currently sits at a 60 Metacritic score with the critics.

Let’s not forget the ultra-hyped (scoff) Skull and Bones coming in with a fantastic 64 on Metacritic! Nobody was really excited for this game either, and I would share the player counts but it’s not available on Steam. It not being available on Steam will only hurt the PC sales of this game even more, though I don’t think they’re too worried about it. I think they knew this was going to flop.

That leaves us with my new favorite game of 2024, and honestly, of 2023; Helldivers 2. My boy Helldivers is sitting at a favorable score of 83, and here’s the real reason you know this game is good… 8.6 user review score. That’s right. Helldivers 2 has a higher user review score than the critics, and no amount of review bombing is going to stop that.

Let me not stop there, though. Helldivers 2 is also sitting at the number 2 spot on the Steam Player Charts as of writing with over 390,000 active players. the number would probably be higher, but the game devs have been very open on Twitter/X that they are working on expanding the server size after already raising it to its current position.

I really hope Arrowhead Studios can keep up with player demand because I know they truly have a hidden gem on their hands with this game, and I can see it going strong for a very long time.
