SAN FRANCISCO—October 15, 2015 — Cosmic Forces, an award-winning animator and game developer, today launched Goosebumps: Night of Scares in collaboration with Sony Pictures Entertainment, producer of the upcoming Goosebumps film, and Scholastic, the publisher of the legendary Goosebumps® book series by R.L. Stine. The first-ever Goosebumps mobile game, Goosebumps: Night of Scares is already giving mobile players goosebumps on the eve of the release of the Goosebumps film, which has already received critical acclaim.
Developed with Free Range Games, Goosebumps: Night of Scares features Jack Black voicing the role of R.L. Stine, characters from the film, as well as the wider universe of monsters and stories created by R.L. Stine. The Goosebumps game takes players through R.L. Stine’s haunted house from the film, each room more frightening than the last, as players collect pages from R.L. Stine’s books while trying to survive the night in a deadly game of hide-n-seek.
Users can play Goosebumps: Night of Scares three different ways: through movement, using the touch screen, or by combining their phones with a compatible VR headset for a highly immersive 3D virtual reality experience, a first for any Goosebumps game.
The game will also include a “Share Your Scare” feature, available for download on Halloween, which uses the camera on a smartphone or tablet to capture players’ “jump scares” for sharing with their friends.
“Cosmic Forces delivered a first-ever Goosebumps mobile game adventure that helps extend the life of the Goosebumps universe from the beloved book series and tomorrow’s hotly anticipated film,” said Mark Caplan, Vice President of Sony Pictures Consumer Products. “The Goosebumps: Night of Scares mobile game is a terrific complement to the film as we prepare to celebrate Halloween with ‘Goosebumps‘ like never before.”
About “Goosebumps” Movie
Upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door, and makes a quick friend in Champ (Ryan Lee). But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah’s mysterious dad is in fact R.L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps® series. As Zach starts learning about the strange family next door, he soon discovers that Stine holds a dangerous secret: the creatures that his stories made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Stine’s creations are unintentionally released from their manuscripts, Zach’s life takes a turn for the weird. In a crazy night of adventure, it’s up to Zach, Hannah, Champ, and Stine to team up and get all of these figments of Stine’s imagination – including Slappy the Dummy, the girl with the haunted mask, the gnomes and many more – back in the books where they belong to save the town. Directed by Rob Letterman. Produced by Deborah Forte and Neal H. Moritz. Screenplay by Darren Lemke. Story by Scott Alexander & Larry Karaszewski. Based on the Goosebumps books written by R.L. Stine.
