At gamescom 2016, which is open to all August 18 – 21, the cosplay village (hall 10.1) is among the highlights, as it was in the previous year. It is the meeting point for many gaming fans, who, thanks to sophisticated costumes, are in some cases easily mistaken for their heroes from the computer games. The cosplay contest does justice to the popularity of the cosplay village and the fantastic dedication of the many cosplayers at gamescom. This is why the cosplay contest, which is being carried out by Defcon Unlimited, is once again taking place this year. The cosplay contest is awarding prizes in a total of six categories. The winners will be announced on August 21, 2016 on the Cosplay Stage in hall 10.1. The application for the cosplay contest 2016 by Defcon Unlimited can be found here. All users with a valid Sunday ticket for gamescom 2016 can apply for the cosplay contest. The application folder should include a photo out of costume, the filled out profile, a song for the stage and of course a photo or a drawing of the costume, which the applicant must have made himself. The application folder is to be sent to the following e-mail address firstname.lastname@example.org The cosplay contest is awarded in a total of six categories:
- Best Cosplay – the costume with the best overall evaluation
- Best Dressed – the best work with fabric (sewing, embroidery, draping)
- Best Armor/Weapon – the best armour/armour elements or weapons
- Best SFX – the most impressive special effects work (stilts, wings, makeup, lighting, design, etc.)
- Best Original Design – best own design
- Best Group – best costumed group
Following the end of the submission phase on July 24, 2016, a jury of experts will select up to 35 nominees from all applications – a maximum of 30 individual and five group places will be considered in the pre-selection. The winners will be announced live at gamescom 2016. The contest including the award ceremony will take place on the gamescom Sunday on the Cosplay Stage in Hall 10.1.
