NCSU Hosts Second Annual Gamers Salute Gaming Convention and Clash of the Carolinas Esports Competition Benefitting Charities Operation Supply Drop and Extra Life
Raleigh, NC – The Carolina Collegiate eSports Committee (CCEC) — an esports community comprised of members from leading North Carolina and South Carolina universities — announces its annual Gamers Salute convention at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, NC. This year’s community event on January 14 – 15, 2017, will benefit gaming charities Operation Supply Drop (assists veterans and active duty military) and Extra Life (supports children with serious or terminal illnesses). The no-cost weekend of gaming enjoyment includes esports tournaments, arcade and tabletop areas, themed musical performances and gaming panels.
The Gamers Salute 2017 convention also will host the second annual Clash of the Carolinas — one of the largest East Coast esports events — at NCSU’s Talley Student Union center. The best collegiate players from leading North Carolina and South Carolina universities — including the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, North Carolina State University, Appalachian State University, Western Carolina University, East Carolina University, Elon University, Duke University, Durham Technical Community College, the University of South Carolina, Clemson University and Wake Forest University — will compete in five tournaments featuring Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Overwatch and Super Smash Bros. Melee.
“Gamers Salute and Clash of the Carolinas unite students and fans of some of the greatest North and South Carolina universities with gamers from all walks of life,” said Ross Ledford, Gamers Salute and Clash of the Carolinas founder. “Now in its second year, our rapidly growing event offers a jam-packed weekend of fun and entertainment, while also raising awareness for two fantastic charities —Operation Supply Drop and Extra Life — that use the power of video games for great good.”
Gamers Salute 2017 brings diverse facets of the gaming community under one roof to support two deserving causes. All proceeds will benefit veteran and active-duty military support organization Operation Supply Drop and the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals charity Extra Life. While there is no charge to attend the event, attendees are encouraged contribute to both charities via on-site booths and online with tax-deductible monetary or in-kind donations.
Gamers Salute begins January 14, 2017 at 10 a.m. EST at NCSU’s Talley Student Union center at 2610 Cates Ave, Raleigh, North Carolina 27606. For more information about the event or to learn how to participate, exhibit or donate, please visit www.gamerssalute.org.
