 Cloudgine Reveals New Cloud Gaming Proof-of-Concept game THEY CAME FROM SPACE
They Came From Space Showcases the Power of Cloudgine’s Technology and its Ability to Bring Cloud Compute Services to More Videogames

EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND – AUG. 15, 2017 – Cloudgine, a leading innovator in video game development technology that has applied its cloud and networking expertise to influential titles such as Microsoft’s Crackdown 3 and Oculus’s Toybox, today revealed a first look at its latest technology powering cloud-based physics, virtual reality and GPU streaming. With its brand-new game, They Came From Space, Cloudgine has built an intensive proof-of-concept showcasing the capabilities of the technology.

“Game development has been long awaiting a drastic change-up – a new technology that can truly expand possibilities and allow developers to super-charge their projects with unprecedented levels of compute power” said Maurizio Sciglio, CEO, Cloudgine. “We created They Came From Space to give developers a clear, fun idea of how powerful Cloudgine’s cloud-based physics, rendered at 90fps, really is. And believe us when we say that this is just an introduction into what Cloudgine is capable of – there’s so much room for continued innovation with our platform and there is so much more coming beyond physics that it’s, frankly, hard to imagine how far talented developers will push it.”

They Came From Space, created for PC, Oculus and Vive, draws visual and tonal inspiration from classic 1950’s B-movie alien invasion films and allows players to annihilate entire cities and landscapes. Utilizing unique cross-platform VR and PC gameplay, the online-multiplayer mayhem-action game gives VR-players control over massive alien Overseers, which work together with PC-players, dubbed Pilots, who control agile drones in:

  • Up to 10-player online team battles pitting players against each other in a race to destroy cities, collect energy for the Mothership’s ultimate weapon and obliterate the enemy’s protective dome;
  • Fully destructible and dynamic environments using cloud-powered physics;
  • Robust streaming director cameras for VR-players that gives Twitch streamers direct control of a personal camera from within the game

“Our team doesn’t only focus on the brilliance of cloud-based technologies – we also pride ourselves in our ability to develop groundbreaking in-game features and concepts,” said Dave Jones, President, Cloudgine. “They Came from Space is not only an amalgamation of what’s possible with Cloudgine, it also shows how VR can smoothly integrate with other platforms. And if you’re fond of streaming your gameplay, I think you’ll find our cloud-rendered video streaming to be particularly useful.”

Cloudgine’s technology supports a wide range of trusted middleware solutions including Unreal Engine 4, Nvidia PhysX, Havok and cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform, making it simple to adopt and integrate into any project. Developers looking to add massive compute power to a game can do so without drastically altering their development processes.
