Blob Climber Review for iPAD

This is the review for the iPad version of vertical climber, Blob Climber by developer Good Goblin Games, a one-man studio founded by Bruce Fournier and based in Phoenix, Arizona.

Blob Climber has players help Blob ascend through a tricked-out volcano lab in order to escape a gang of evil scientists.

Gameplay
The gameplay of Blob Climber includes 60 random floors with 20+ obstacles and traps, Story Mode for those who prefer a more linear challenge, and 3 alternative gameplay modes: bounceTASTIC, jetTASTIC, and ENDLESS. While we were thoroughly challenged at each stage, sometimes we found ourselves getting frustrated as our Blob tended to stick to the bottom of the obstacles and shapes rather than on top, and we ended up having to start several stages all over again. We highly recommend going through the tutorial. For this reason, we gave the gameplay a 4/ 5.

Controls
The controls for Blob Climber are pretty straight forward.

  • SWIPE to jump off walls and ceilings
  • TAP to reach far off ledges with your stretchable arm
  • HOLD down two fingers to become invincible

We gave the controls a 4.5 / 5.

Overall
Overall, Blob Climber is a challenging and fun game, but prepare to be frustrated at times. If you love upward platformers, then this game is definitely for you. We also appreciated the low price of unlocking all the stages – Blob Climber is free to play, but a single $1.99 in-app purchase disables ads and unlocks all 60 floors. (The first 20 floors can be played for free.) Well done!
