At this year’s GDC, Japanese middleware developer Silicon Studio presented a demo of Black Desert Online to highlight the advanced technology of its optical post-processing software YEBIS. The MMORPG, developed by PearlAbyss, already boasts outstanding visuals, but once YEBIS’ optical effects are applied, Black Desert Online rises to even more ambitious levels of graphical fidelity.

CEO Takehiko Terada of Silicon Studio said,

“I thought that of Black Desert Online’s realistic graphics were suitable to demonstrate the cutting edge technology of YEBIS. We are pleased with the response of the audience as expected, and we look forward to cooperating with Pearl Abyss in the future.”

Pearl Abyss will apply YEBIS’ graphic effects introduced at GDC to Black Desert Online, and plans to do a full-scale graphic remastering. Choi Chang-ae, Team leader of the PearlAbyss program division, said,

“This video is only a small part of what we’re working on. We are constantly trying our best to provide users with a better visual experience in keeping with the evolution of hardware. Players will be able to venture through Black Desert with enhanced graphics later this year.”

One of the world’s most renowned graphics technology companies, Silicon Studio has been working in the digital entertainment business from the beginning of 1999, developing a variety of middleware and game engine solutions for PC and mobile game titles. Silicon Studio’s YEBIS, used in games such as Bloodborne and Dark Souls III, is famed as being the best post-processing software for optical effects.
