BATMAN: RETURN TO ARKHAM Review for PS4

BATMAN: RETURN TO ARKHAM Review for PS4

This is Gaming Cypher’s PS4 review done by Hemal Patel for Batman: Return to Arkham by developer Rocksteady Studios.

Dark Knight aka Batman has returned with two of the successful games in the series for the newer consoles, i.e., Arkham Asylum and Arkham City. These two games redefined the superhero genre with the fantastic gameplay and storyline. Rocksteady showed how the Batman games should be taken care of successfully. Entering the game, wearing the cowl of Batman and tapping in the mind of Batman to tackle the villains was one of the best things about the games.

Batman: Return to Arkham has been remastered for the newer consoles and provides a bundle including both games and all the DLC’s. It also includes all the Batman skins. Playing the game was a walk in the memory lane, the most important character I missed in Arkham Knight, the latest game in the series was Joker. Even though he was in the story, and mentally playing with Batman’s mind. I remember playing Asylum for the first time, and Joker toying around with Batman.

The gameplay is really the same, as of the previous games, on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. Using all the cool batman gadgets, honorable mention: Detective Mode is always the best. Flying through the city in Arkham City using grapnel booster, is one my favorites. The combat is always the best using dozens of different combos and takedowns, nothing can compare to those. This game gives you chance to play head on as well as stealth.

The graphics of the games in general looks really good, if you look at the Batman, the cape and cowl stands out always, the best things that were designed. The environment as well looks really good, but sometimes lightning makes it looks really odd. The game is brighter but does not always looks good.

There are a couple of issues which would let down the players who played the game on previous consoles and PC’s. One of the biggest issue is framerate drops in a couple of areas in game. It is just so frustrating playing smoothly on 30fps for most of the game and it will drop sometimes. If we compare graphics from previous version, it definitely is a bit of letdown. I felt overall the character and enemy models looks really good in remaster, but somehow they felt a bit odd if we compare to the old version.

Conclusion:

It was a really good choice to remaster the game for the newer consoles, the story line is one of the best and the gameplay is on par to any other game. I would suggest to those who have never played the Arkham game on previous gen consoles, should definitely get this one, but for the players who have played already and have it, I think couple of issues like frame rate drops and the lightings really makes the game sloppy for them. Even though overall it looks good, it stills misses the feel of the original games. But would definitely give this game a try if I am someone who is new to the Arkham series. It would be a perfect game for a Batman fan like me, but because of the issues, I would give this game a 7.5 rating.
